The Venue
Dave has lived in the country all his life and began training working gundogs over thirty years ago. Since then, he has enjoyed success in the field and at competition level.
Dave and Nicola’s training demonstration provides an insight into the benefits and fun of owning a well-trained dog, proving that hard work at the puppy stage pays dividends by developing a happy relationship with an adult dog.
The display covers the basics of bonding and gunshot steadiness that is vital for a picking up dog. Moving onto off-lead work and direction control, they cover the fundamentals of gundog training with humour and elements of the unexpected. The reward for the dog is always to retrieve, whatever the object: a dummy, a rubber pheasant, or even a mobile phone.
To encourage children to take up the sport of shooting and working gundogs we welcome them into the arena to help with our demonstration.
